Washington Chapter NAFTO

Welcome

From the Director

Welcome to the Washington State NAFTO website!

The annual training conference for 2012 will be held at the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission in Burien on March 5th and 6th, 2012.

Last March, there were 93 attendees with 42 agencies represented compared to 76 attendees and 29 agencies represented in 2010. We hope to continue to see the numbers increase as some hiring again has started at some agencies and others do want to keep their trainers ready when they have trainees again.

The Washington State Jail Association will be helping us out again this year by providing sponsorship funds which is very much appreciated. If you are interested in knowing more about the scholarships, please contact board member Joyce McCoy.

This year’s offerings include the following:

Day One: The FBI's Law Enforcement Officers Killed and Assaulted (LEOKA) Officer Safety & Survival program. This is a nation-wide law enforcement safety initiative. The program is designed to assist law enforcement managers, trainers, and personnel in the identification of training issues for the purpose of preventing the deaths and/or serious injuries of law enforcement personnel. This presentation includes review of case studies with video interviews of officers and offenders involved in Violent Encounter situations. This program will be presented by Marcus J. Young.

Day Two: A series of classes specific for training officer training. Most of the 2-hour classes will be repeated so the trainers can attend multiple topics. Classes being developed to cover FTO refresher; Why DOR’s fail; Legal Update; Data Mining; Corrections training review; and other topics still being developed.

A business meeting will be held at the end of the second day and the membership will be voting for several representatives into two-year terms. The terms being voted on include the Director, Treasurer, Peninsula Region, North Eastern Region and Sea-King Region. Call any board member if you would like to be involved!

The registration form is available here on our website under Conference. We would love to see you there!

Washington NAFTO has been providing training for trainers in law enforcement, corrections and communications since 1993 now.

Thank you for visiting our website. If there is something specific you would like to see added to the site, please contact us and we will see what we can do.
